You don't have to work for NASA to realize that these are hard days for families. The Bible told us years ago that the church age would be beset with difficult seasons. We are in one of those seasons. Our country is straining under this difficult season. At the heart of that strain is families. And not just parents. Grandparents are called upon to raise a grandchild. An aunt or uncle may have such a demanding job that they cannot give to their niece or nephew the attention they hunger for. Even neighbors find that it is hard to form a strong neighborhood where each looks out for the other.
October 3rd is for all those people - parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends - so we can together raise up a generation that seeks after God. A generation that, as Jesus put it, "hungers and thirsts after righteousness." Our Family Conference is a day to interact on the tough challenges facing the family today. Join us on October 3rd! You won't be disappointed. -Pastor Chip

Family Conference Workshops

Balancing Christ’s Calling: Making Disciples In and Out of Your Home with Tammy Smith Ph.D, PCC, NCC

As Jesus’ followers, we are to make disciples. What a huge privilege! However, how do we know which disciples to focus on — the ones inside our house or out? If we’ve been blessed with children, then we have priority to train them up and provide of a foundation for all of life in Christ. That’s also precisely what we are to do with people outside our home with whom God gives us influence. The challenge becomes how to balance these two. We can hole up in a spiritual enclave until our kids are grown, and then reach out to the world. Or, we could immerse ourselves in ministry pursuits, pouring all our resources into the Great Commission while leaving our kids to figure it out on their own. Clearly, there’s a balance.

Competing in a Tech World and Becoming your Grandchild’s BFF with Phyllis Harmony

What do you do when face-time is replaced by Facebook and "we" is spelled WII? Don’t give up as we look at ways to stay connected and still be ourselves. "They may not remember what you did or said, but they will remember how you made them feel."

Fly! Be Free... Independence for The Next Generation
with Greg Schad, LISW, IMFT

A new trend sees adult children staying in their parents’ homes well into their 20’s or returning to the parents’ nest. We will look at ways to help young adults become independent. Folks with emancipation-age children, teenagers and especially pre-teen age children would benefit from this workshop.

Gender Gymnastics–Guiding Boys and Girls
with Ron and Chery Boehm

Parenting children in a world that has been ravaged by ongoing gender wars is a great challenge today. What’s a parent to do? In this workshop we will openly discuss the issues and practices of bringing up children "in the way they should go" with regard to each gender.

Our Legacy: The Ultimate Gift with Rick and Tammy Nuzum

Each day the decisions we make are building a legacy which will impact our future generations. It’s not a question of whether we will leave a legacy but how will it be defined. Join us as we examine scriptural principles which are foundational to embracing our Godly inheritance.

Smooth, Blended or On the Rocks: Biblical principles and practical tools to keep your family strong
with Shawn Ives, MA, PCC

In this Workshop, we will explore the foundations of family. Blended and step-family relationships and dynamics will be a key focus. The Lord can help us to create wonderful and healthy relationships in a variety of family situations - even though it can be quite challenging!

What Do You Do When Your Child Rejects GOD?
with Tom and Janie Ebenhack

How do we keep them from going astray? How do we bring them back? Can we refocus them on God? Are we really looking for the solution? We’ll delve into these questions and more as we look at this critical, and very common, aspect of child raising.
